Document Shredding

Privacy experts often recommend that individuals shred files, tax documents, credit cards and bank statements. In order to provide County residents the opportunity to participate in a document shredding program, the County’s Environmental Services Division has implemented a Mobile Paper Shredding Program, with funding from the Recycling & Sustainability Fund.

Through this program residents can observe as their documents are shredded on site. Acceptable documents for shredding are limited to confidential and sensitive materials only. Non-confidential materials, such as books, magazines, newspapers, etc., should be recycled through your local municipal recycling program and will not be accepted at these events. In an effort to accommodate all those wishing to participate, there is a limit of 3 bags or boxes of documents weighing no more than 25 lbs. each/per vehicle.

All Northampton County residents are eligible to participate in shredding their personal documents. Businesses are not permitted. Residents are urged to make sure that the materials they present for shredding do not include plastic, batteries, cardboard, or metal. However, there is no need to remove staples or paper clips. For safety, County & contracted staff will remove documents from vehicles, residents are asked to simply unlock their doors and remain in their vehicle to expedite wait times.

The Northampton County mobile shredding events are held rain or shine, between the hours of 10am to noon, unless trucks fill first.
