[NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PA] — This evening, following Northampton County Council’s approval of the 2026 budget, County Executive Lamont G. McClure announced a historic achievement: for the eighth consecutive year, the County has passed a budget with no property tax increase.

“From the beginning, I promised to end the over-taxation of the people of Northampton County,” said County Executive Lamont G. McClure. “Eight straight years without a tax increase, and a tax cut that returned $25 million to our residents, shows that we kept that promise.”

Records indicate that since at least 1961, Northampton County has never experienced an eight-year period without a tax increase. This era of fiscal responsibility also includes a previous tax cut, which returned $25 million to hardworking Northampton County residents.

County Executive McClure commended his Cabinet, County Council and County employees for their partnership in delivering responsible, stable budgets year after year.

“This historic eighth consecutive budget without a tax increase proves that fiscal discipline and strong public service can go hand in hand,” McClure added. “Our residents deserve a government that protects both their wallets and the services they rely on. By working together, we have returned $25 million to the people of Northampton County while continuing to invest in public safety, human services, and our growing community.”

The 2026 budget reflects the County’s ongoing commitment to efficient operations, prudent financial planning, and safeguarding essential services without placing additional burdens on taxpayers.
