Northampton County Executive Final Executive Report to Council
WHO: Northampton County Executive Lamont G. McClure
WHAT: Northampton County Executive Reduced Debt and Increased Borrowing Capacity
WHEN: December 11, 2025
[NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PA] — Following the final Northampton County Council meeting of the year, County Executive Lamont G. McClure issued a statement outlining the exceptional financial condition in which he is leaving the County at the end of his administration.
“Tonight marks my final Council meeting as County Executive, and I am proud to report that Northampton County ends this year in tremendous financial health. Despite unprecedented challenges, including a global pandemic, we maintained strict fiscal discipline, made smart investments, and protected taxpayer dollars.”
“As we move into 2026, the County has approximately $1.2 billion in borrowing capacity, the strongest financial position in our history. Northampton County now holds the best bond rating in the entire Lehigh Valley, demonstrating our responsible stewardship and credit strength.”
“At the same time, over the past 8 years, we reduced overall county debt, even while completing major projects such as the new Forensic Center, a facility critical to public safety and long overdue. We delivered it without compromising our balance sheet.”
McClure noted that the strong financial standing comes despite heightened scrutiny from County Council:
“Throughout my tenure, some members of Council questioned our fiscal approach. The numbers speak for themselves. I leave office confident that this administration upheld its responsibility to taxpayers and positioned Northampton County for continued stability and success.”
McClure concluded by expressing his appreciation to county employees and residents: “It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Northampton County. I am grateful for the trust you placed in me and proud of the financial foundation we are passing on to the next administration.”
